"Cruisin' Bob's - Summer of '62"
By Larry Grossman - RetroVisions

This is a totally new and improved version of my popular Cruisin' Bob's picture! Aside from a new sky (and moon), there is the addition front and center of one of the most famous cars in Hot Rodding history, Norm Grabowski's iconic "Kookie T". This cool car was driven by hipster Ed "Kookie " Byrnes in the classic '60's TV series "77 Sunset Strip, and was also the very first T bucket rod ever built! It seemed only appropriate to include this great car in my picture considering Life Magazine once featured this car at this Bob's ...on it's cover!! That's Norm at the wheel (as on the Life cover), and behind him you'll see other great rods, customs, woodies, gassers, and even a Harley chopper. Some of the cars are new to this picture, plus there are some new cool dudes, hot babes, and even a Burbank P.D.cop!

If you grew up in Los Angeles somewhere between 1950 and 1970, you cruised a Bob's Big Boy on Friday night ...end of story! Depicted here is a scene from the summer of 1962 at the Bob's in Toluca Lake (Burbank) California. Built in 1949, this is the oldest Bob's still standing, and amazingly, on any Friday night it's still L.A.'s most popular cruising scene! Be there ...or be square! -- L.G.
