"The Airplane Cafe"
By Larry Grossman - RetroVisions |
||
In Los Angeles between the 1920 and 1930's, whimsically themed diners, cafes, and restaurants were very popular. This particular one was obviously fashioned to look like an airplane, and was located in Studio City California. In this scene I've created, a blind man plays a National Steel guitar, as "Spanky" (from the "Our Gang Comedies") sits on the step listening. Considering that many studios were located in Studio City (duh!), finding a celebrity here wouldn't be too unusual. Meanwhile, a Forsheim traveling shoe salesman has just arrived in his 1923 Model 'T', and seems to be taken aback by the whole scene! -- L.G. |
