"The Hollywood"
By Larry Grossman - RetroVisions

Originally built in 1913, the Hollywood Theatre was remodeled in 1938 (in the art deco style depicted in my picture) by famed theatre designer S. Charles Lee. Located on Hollywood Boulevard only two blocks away from the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, it was the first theatre in the world to feature angled marquees (to capture the attention of passing motorists!). In the mid '90's it was converted into a venue for "The Guinness Book of World Records" tourist attraction (ugh!). In the scene I've depicted, two classic film noir gangster movies are playing: Humphrey Bogart in 1941's "All Through the Night", and Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd in 1942 's "This Gun for Hire". -- L.G.
