"The Vista"
By Larry Grossman - RetroVisions

Opened in 1926, the exterior of the Vista Theatre is a Spanish Revival style, yet the interior is done entirely in an Egyptian theme (the tombs in Egypt had just been discovered ...mid construction!). It is located at the intersection of Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards in the Los Feliz district of Los Angeles, and was built on the exact spot where D.W. Griffith's 1916 film "Intolerance" (which, up until that time, was the biggest and most expensive movie ever made) was filmed. In the scene I've created, Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1946 film "Notorious", starring Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant, is on a double bill with the 1946 film "The Blue Dahlia", starring Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd. (Ps. I go Hitchcock one better by appearing twice in one scene - that's me standing alone, and that's also me with my girlfriend Sue on the left!). -- L.G.
